CONTINENTAL -- Erma J. (Shank) Kern, 97, of Continental, passed away at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at The Meadows of Ottawa. She was born March 12, 1928, in North Creek, OH to the late Cary and Hettie (Parson) Shank. On September 11, 1948, she married E. Eugene Kern, who preceded her in death on April 6, 2002.
Erma is survived by three children: Philip (Brenda) Kern of Continental, Becky (Butch) Perrine of Elida and Laura Lammers of Continental; six grandchildren: Heather (Jesse) Sanchez, Jeff Kern, Jacob (Jenny) Perrine, Alyssa (Doug) Lieurance, Gabriel Perrine and Isaac (Megan) Lammers; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers: Gaylen Shank and Glen Shank.
Erma formerly worked at Wasserman's Restaurant. She attended Christ United Methodist Church, Continental. Erma loved gardening, sewing and spending time with her family and friends.
Funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2025, at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental with Pastor Monica Kleman officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Continental. Visitation will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
