FRANCIS WELLMANN
DELPHOS — Francis "Frank" J. Wellmann, 82, of Delphos, passed away peacefully Friday evening, August 22, 2014 at The Vancrest Healthcare Center of Delphos.
He was born March 28, 1932 in Delphos to John J. and Irene A. (Ricker) Wellmann. He is survived by a sister, Joan (James) Weger and a brother John F. (Patricia) Wellmann, both of Delphos; 5 nephews and 3 nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elmer "Andy" (Phyllis) Wellmann; a sister, Sister Mary Johnene SND.
He retired as president and owner of Hofeller Hiatt and Clark in Lima, Ohio. He attended Delphos St. John's High School and graduated in 1950. He served in the Naval Reserves and then served 2 years active duty on the U.S.S. McCaffery destroyer escort. He graduated with a B.S. in math and business education at Ohio Northern University. He was a member of the former Delphos Jaycees and received the Distinguished Service Award and was also The Delphos Chamber President. He was a member of the Delphos St. John's Finance Committee and the Delphos St. John's School Board, where he served as President for 6 years. He served on the State AAA Board for 35 years. He moved to Lima in 1976. He served 2 terms as President of the Greater Lima Downtown Chamber. He then served on the YMCA, Redcross, CURLAC Boards. He chaired the Streetscape Committee, which was a National Award Winner. He was on the Civic Center Board and served 5 years as President and also the treasurer. He produced 8 musicals for the Civic Center. He chaired the Building Committee during construction with Cinci V.P. and Marilyn Collmer. He designed and chaired expansion of The Multi-Purpose room. He was a member of Lima Kiwanis where he served as President for 35 years and served as President of the Endowment Fund.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos with Fa. Ron Schock and Fa. Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Delphos Veterans Council.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Strayer Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Delphos St. John's Parish Foundation.
