DELPHOS — Harold Robert "Bob" McDonald, 91, of rural Delphos, passed away at 10:25 AM Saturday, June 9, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born on a farm in Noble Twp., Auglaize County on February 27, 1927, to the late Harold Ross McDonald and Lila June Ruppert Bollinger. His step-father John Jacob Bollinger and his two brothers Arthur and Thomas McDonald also preceded him in death. On March 21, 1952, he married Betty Ann Hayes, who survives.
Bob attended Spencerville High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. He worked for the Nickle Plate Railroad, Farmers Elevator in Elida and retired from the American Twp. Road Crew after 25 years of service.
He was a member of the Young at Heart Toy Collector Club, Eastern Woodland carvers club and the Bruckner Gem and Mineral Club.
When not lending a hand to whoever had a project that needed done, he filled his leisure time with his hobbies of woodworking and wood and rock carving, making several pieces of furniture and over 100 individual pieces of wood and rock carvings.
Survivors include his sons; John J. (Linda) McDonald and David M. (Joyce) McDonald; his daughter Suzell Q. (Larry) Conkle; grandchildren; Heather (Jack) Howell, John (Tammi) McDonald, Ashley (Sam) Admire and Troy Conkle; great-grandchildren; Connor McDonald, Thane and Calista Admire.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 11 from 2/4 and 6/8 PM at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Lay Minister Rosali Lora officiating. Interment will follow in the American Twp. Greenlawn Cemetery at Elida.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
