Henry Quatman Obituary

LIMA -- Henry (Hank) G. Quatman, 74, passed away suddenly on the morning of Sunday January 25, 2026. Born in Denver, Colorado Hank was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Hank is survived by his wife of 50 years, Debra (Dickman) and sons Matthew (Julie) and Henry G. Quatman II. He was deeply loved by his three grandchildren Madeline, Matthew and Michael as well as his siblings and their spouses Jane Quatman, Tony (Debbie) Quatman, Patricia (Tom) Scullin, Joseph Rainey, Kit (Ken) Weir, Jon (Ellen) Quatman, and Ed (Paula) Quatman, Nancy Springer-Quatman and numerous nieces and nephews. He is currently celebrating in heaven with his parents Philip Augustus and Catherine, sister Phyllis Rainey, brothers James, Jerry, and Gus Quatman and niece Carey Gray.

Hank was a high school English teacher at the Lima City Schools. He shared his love of reading, proper grammar, and a passion to advocate for students for 30 years. Hank enjoyed things such as reading, watching westerns, fishing, cheering for the Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Reds. He always looked forward to attending anything his grandchildren were involved in at Lima Central Catholic, his alma mater. He cherished spending time at Lake Gage with his family and college buddies as well as at the Auglaize River with his good friend Dave Picker and crew. Hank was an enthusiastic competitor whether it was in a gym, golf course, card table, throwing darts, shooting pool, shuffleboard you needed someone to participate he was always in.

Hank's heart knew no stranger and had no bounds, if you called he was already grabbing his keys. He was known for sharing his wisdom, love, and laughter with all those around him. A tactic he used often was expressing this love through his frequent texts and use of emoji's.

Relatives and friends are invited to Hank's visitation of cremated remains on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a rosary service to follow at the Chiles-Laman Funeral Home, Eastside Chapel located 828 Bellefontaine Ave., Lima, OH. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 31, 2026, beginning 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, 777 S. Main St. Lima, OH.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Hank may be made to the Catherine Quatman Scholarship Fund, c/o Lima Central Catholic, 720 S. Cable Road, Lima, OH 45805 or Hank would simply want you to let someone in your life know that you love them.

To all the Quatman family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Hank was my first friend when I changed schools and we were always close all the way through High School and College. We kind of drifted after I moved to St Louis, then got back together when he and Tony A, John S, and Pat K came to Toledo for my Dad's wake and it was like 30 years apart seemed like a couple of days. From there we kicked our friendship back in action and had some rare but good times together. He'd keep me updated, bragging on his grandson's sports. I thought we'd have some more adventures together, but I guess the big guy had other plans. Rest in peace my friend, and I promise to tell stories about you for as long as I'm around.

I remember Hank from my childhood in Lima.Ohio,
We were neighbors and lived right around the block. We had really good times playing all kind of outdoor games, with most of his brothers and sisters. Hank's mother always had candy treats for all of us. One of my most memorable times was waiting on the bus on Market Street in all kinds of weather! Hank always was friendly and got along with everyone. He was a great person to now.

From when I first met Hank at Regis College, later becoming dorm roommates, through many shenanigans that can´t be posted for public view, to annual trips to Angola for our golf outings, Hank was the most dedicated and loyal friend you could ask for. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. We planned many more years together to argue as to who was better the Broncos or the Browns before he hit his mark of "80 and out". Those years will now be as empty as the place in my heart. I love you Man and will always carry you with me. When it´s my time, reach out your hand and give me a boost up to where you are, as you always did here on earth.

Our prayers and deepest sympathies to the Quatman family from the Pfotenhauer family. Hank was always a kind and generous man, and always friendly. I have fond memories of visiting "Hank´s Place" at Lake Gage as a kid, memories that will always make me smile. Hank was a good friend to my dad, Bob "Porky" Pfotenhauer, and he will be truly missed.
