LIMA -- James Lynn "Jim" Archer Sr., age 82, was called into the presence of the Lord at 1:04 a.m. on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at his home with his family by his side.
Jim was born November 20, 1942, in West Newton, OH, to the late Perry Archer and Mary (Brown) Archer Thompson. On February 26, 1999, he married Carla Jo (Moore) Archer who survives.
Jim was a 1961 graduate of Lima Senior High School. He was known for his sense of humor, and he loved spending time cutting wood, working on cars, tinkering in his garage, and mowing the lawn. Jim could fix or build anything. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa who loved spending time with his family. Jim was a member of Free Will Baptist Church in Lima.
He is survived by his wife, Carla Jo Archer of Lima; children, Laura Thompson of Lima, Randy Thompson of Lima, Penny Graves of Lima, James "Jimmy" (Stefanie Preston) Archer, Jr. of Ohio City, Larry (Holly) Archer of Elida, Mistydawn Shellhammer of Lima, and David (Bethany) Moore of Lima; 26 grandchildren; and 31 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Robert Archer, and Joseph Archer; grandson, Randy Thompson, Jr.; stepdad, Charles Thompson; daughter-in-law, Kersten Archer; brother-in-law, Timothy Moore, former spouse and mother of Randy and Laura, Darlene Nickolson; and former spouse and mother of Penny, Larry, James and Misty, Alice Archer.
Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Shawnee Chapel. Rev. David Coffey will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.
