DELPHOS – Jean Mary Clark Swick, age 94, of Delphos, passed away Saturday morning, May 11, 2024, at her residence.
She was born September 29, 1929, in Hull, Yorkshire England to Herbert Frederick and Agnes C. (Bateman) Clark , who both preceded her in death.
On August 20, 1955, she married Herbert Swick who preceded her in death on December 22, 2020. They had been married 65 years.
Jean is survived by a son, David A. (Sheri) Swick of Delphos; a daughter, Patricia Dawn (Joe) Bullinger of Delphos; a sister-in-law, Genie Swick of Elida; six grandchildren, Brent Hochstetler, Collin (Courtney) Swick, Andrew (Shea) Swick, Matt (Tracy) Bullinger, Ben Babcock, and Ryan (Madison Jacobs) Bullinger; and eight great-grandchildren, Morgyn, Caleb, Carter, Callie, Brecken, Xavier, Grady, and Quinn. Jean is survived by two brothers, Kenneth Clark and Alan (Linda) Clark both in England. She is also survived by her four special nephews, Stephen (Lynda), Michael (Kelly), Paul (Ann), and Christopher (Colleen) Richards; and many nieces and nephews both in the U.K. and here in the states.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son; a brother Ronald (Shirley) Clark; sister, Patricia (Amos) Richards; a sister-in-law, Mildred Clark; three brothers-in-law, Doyt, Ronald and Denny Swick; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Pugh.
Jean met her husband, Herb, while he was serving in the United States Air Force in England. Jean absolutely adored her family both in the U.K. and the U.S. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jean was loved by many and known especially for her classiness, gift of gab and would speak hours of her memories of being evacuated from England during W.W. II. She would always say "even though those were frightening years during W.W. II, everyone loved one another and looked out for each other".
Jean was extremely proud of her English heritage as many trips were taken back and forth for family vacations over the years which helped keep the family both here and the U.K. so very close. Many close friends and family even referred to her as the 'Queen of Delphos'. She was truly our English Rose. She was admired and loved by many and will be truly missed!
A memorial service for Jean will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos. Pastor Carol Pretorius, officiating. I´m so very sorry for the Swick family loss. I have always adored Jean and used to help her and Herb when they´d stop into Lazarus to shop when I worked there. A fond memory of mine. Thinking of you all, Ann Havericak (Ann Karcher)

I was a long time neighbor of Jean and Herb on Hummingbird St. in Elida. I just loved that couple! Loved chatting with them, they were the nicest people. Dawn babysat for my kids many times and I knew Chris from the neighborhood and also teaching at West Middle School. Great family! She will be missed.

So sorry for your loss. My mother was also from England and knew Jean well. There was a small group of ladies that were from there and would get together. Sending prayers
