OTTOVILLE -- Jeanette M. Knippen, 87, of Ottoville, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Lima Memorial Hospital. Jeanette was born on August 27, 1934 in Ottawa to the late Othmar and Clara (Hilvers) Smith. On September 10, 1955, at St Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus Grove, she married George Knippen Jr. who preceded her in death on April 30, 2014.
Jeanette is survived by 5 daughters: Janice (Charles) Pohlman of Delphos, Karen (Dennis) Ricker of Ottoville, Debra (Timothy) Verhoff of Kalida, Doneta (Rex) Free of Ottoville and Rita (Patrick) Klosterman of Brookville, and 2 sons: Kevin (Cindy) Knippen, and Michael (Jackie Rose) Knippen, both of Ottoville. 19 grandchildren: Br. Eric Pohlman, OSB, Brian (Nicole) Pohlman, Jeffrey (Nicole) Pohlman, Trina (Logan) Gross, Nicholas (Carmen) Ricker, Dale (Jessica) Ricker, Jared (Mallory) Ricker, Chelsea (Brett) Schnipke, Alyssa (Justin Krulock) Verhoff, Justine (Eric) Kahle, Derek (Morgan) Verhoff, Abby (Nathan) Siefker, Deidre (Austin) Wieman, Brittany (John) Szymanski, Kala (Brent) Clementz, Austin Knippen, Elliot (Shannon) Klosterman, Nolan (Morgan) Klosterman and Grace Klosterman, 25 great-grandchildren, with one on the way, two sisters: Dorothy Bonifas and Joan (Ray) Moening, and one brother: Kenneth (Karen) Smith.
She is preceded in death by her brother and sister in law, Paul and Karen Smith, and brothers in law, Kenneth Kramer and George Bonifas.
Jeanette was a wonderful wife and mother. She enjoyed scrapbooking, journaling, bus trips and gardening. She attended Columbus Grove High School and worked at Triplet Electric in Bluffton, Ohio before her marriage. Once her youngest started school she went to work for Sarah Jane Nursing Home as a cook. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monday, January 10, 2022 with Fr Jerome Schetter officiating. Burial will follow in St Mary's Cemetery, Ottoville. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 9, 2022 from 2-8 p.m. at LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, JACKSON TOWNSHIP.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Ottoville, St Mary's Cemetery fund, or Ottoville EMS.
