KALIDA — Jerome "Jack" Fortman, 94, of Kalida, died on November 25, 2021 at The Meadows of Kalida.
He was born on June 14, 1927 to the late William and Eleanor (Bockrath) Fortman. On June 9, 1951, he married Armella Hedrick. They enjoyed many happy years together until her death on November 10, 2007.
Jack is survived by his daughters, Ann (Ray) Spriggs, Jane (Tom) Studer, Laura (Rick) Schumacher, grandchildren Maria Spriggs (Nathan Roberts), Matthew (Jodie) Spriggs, Adam (Michelle) Schumacher, Brian (Blaire) Schumacher, Daniel Spriggs, great grandchildren Charlie, Clare, Carlee, Cora, Camryn, Holden, and his sister Dorothy Gasser.
He was preceded in death by his two infant daughters, and siblings Louise Wehri, Margaret Knueven, Clete Fortman, Mary Miller, Mildred Fortman, and Tom Fortman.
Jack was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, The Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus. He served as a Trustee for Union Township for nearly 30 years and drove a bus for Kalida Local Schools for many years. Jack was devoted to his faith and his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida, with Father Mark Hoying officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, Kalida, Ohio. Arrangements are under the direction of LOVE-HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Township.

So sorry to hear of Jack's passing. I remember being out at the farm when I was growing up (very young kid). My parents, uncle Gene and aunt Doris were friends of Jack and Armella so when we came to Kalida we visited with not only my grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles but with the Fortman family among others. We were always welcomed with open arms. I will pray for your whole family.
