John Recker

1940 - 2023

LIMA -- John Edward Recker of Lima Ohio, loving husband and devoted father of three daughters returned to his heavenly home at 4:24 am on June 11th, 2023, at the age of 83 years.

John was born on March 8th, 1940, in Fort Jennings, Ohio, to Fred and Lauretta (Geise) Recker who proceeded him in death. On April 8th, 1967, he married Kathleen (Mauceri) Recker who survives. Their love was the joy of his life. Also surviving are his three daughters, Angela Recker of Wapakoneta, Lisa (Roy) Yahl of Lima Ohio, and Laura Recker of Galloway Ohio. He also has six grandchildren who survive: Nicholas Bailey, Joshua, Jacob and Madeline Yahl, Simone, and Noah Daniel.

John was an accomplished entrepreneur. He was a barber, a truck driver, an insurance agent, a landlord and a small business owner. He owned Gnu Tub of Lima from 1978 to his retirement in 2000.

John had a love of woodworking, "do it yourself" projects, gardening, and cooking. He made many of the wood furnishings in his home including the dining room and kitchen tables that we gathered around at every family celebration. He prided himself in home building, not only did he design and build his own home but built his daughter Lisa's home. Every Spring he planted a garden so he would have delicious home-grown tomatoes, onions, green peppers, lettuce, cabbage, and zucchini for his superb vegetable soup. He loved canning tomatoes every year. He was known for his dedication to the Lord, and his charitable contributions to his church. He was a former Knight of Columbus and a member of Holy Name Society and was a volunteer for St Gerard Festival for years.

John is survived by two siblings, Edna (Mario) Katunarich of Long Beach California, James (Bernadette) Recker of Denver Colorado, and a sister-in-law, JoAnn (Timothy) Kelly of Medina, OH. He was preceded in death by his siblings Othmer Recker, Aurther (Mae) Recker, Harold Recker, Lucille (Wilber) Wallenhorst, Mary (Aurther) Blankemeier, Leonard (Pricilla) Recker, Patricia (Earl) Youngpeter, and Marceil (George) Schroeder.

A funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday June 15th, 2023, at St. Gerard Catholic Church in Lima Ohio at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow in Gethsemani Cemetery. Friends and Family may call at Chiles and Son's Shawnee Chapel from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday June 14th, 2023. A Parish Wake service will be held at 8pm on Wednesday, following the visitation.

The family would like to express warm gratitude to The Springs of Lima who cared for John and our family graciously and with dignity. Thank you to the clergy and lay people who helped John stay as close to God as possible during his last days.
