OTTAWA - Joseph "Joe" Niese, 82, of Ottawa, passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2022, at the Meadows of Ottawa. He was born on January 21, 1940, in Leipsic to the late Norbert and Florence (Kleman) Niese. On October 11, 1991, he married Joann Nienberg, she preceded him in death on April 17, 2017.
Surviving are three sisters: Betty Recker of Glandorf, Leoma (Harold) Balbaugh of Miller City, Agnes (Bob) Maag of Glandorf; and one brother: Virgil (Margaret) Niese of Leipsic.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Richard (Eileen) Niese; a sister, Margaret "Maggie" (Bill) Warnecke; and a brother-in-law, Don Recker.
Joe worked at Allied Agry, Leipsic for 49 years. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa. Joe was a veteran, serving in the National Guard. He was also a member of the Ottawa K of C, Leipsic American Legion, and the Leipsic Eagles.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Scott Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Leipsic American Legion. A visitation will be held on Wednesday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a scripture service at 7:50 p.m. at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa.
Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
