LIMA - Martha 'Marty' R. Sherrick (Myers), age 92, passed away on February 5, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan V. Sherrick.
Martha is survived by three children, Amy G. Sherrick of Fresno, CA; David N. Sherrick (Cheryl) of Elida, OH; and Nancy S. Sherrick of Elida, OH; 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Martha was also preceded in death by her parents, Louella (Simone) Myers and Donald F. Myers; a sister, Jean Ann (Myers) Van Horn; and a brother, Donald ("Sonny") Myers.
Martha was a graduate of Shawnee High School. She was an active member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church of Elida, where together with her husband, she taught Junior Church and was a member of a highly active Sunday School class of their own, that was known for the Chicken BBQ and whole hog sausage sales.
Martha was a homemaker but kept very busy with her children as a Girl Scout Leader, 4-H Leader, a member of IUM Women, a Channel 44 Prayer Warrior, a Bible School teacher, and was active in Teens for Christ. She helped make several floats for her daughters' girl scout troop's Allen County Fair Parade entries and was always willing to teach anyone a craft. Martha volunteered at the Johnny Appleseed Festival teaching how to make cornhusk dolls and beeswax candles, was an Elida High School Band Booster, and volunteered teaching crafts at several area elementary schools. She traveled to a school in Georgia where, along with her husband, they taught students how to make cornhusk dolls. Martha co-owned the Hollow Log Gift Shop with her late husband.
Martha instilled in her children a strong work ethic and respect for others, how to make useful items from what was on hand, volunteering, and to always help others. There was never a stranger when someone came to the Sherrick home, where there was always an abundance of good times and delicious food to share.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Martha's caregivers from Lima Convalescent Home and Mercy Health Hospice for these past three years, and for taking this journey with their mother, grandparent, and great grandparent. The love and kindness shown to Martha will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lima Convalescent Home's Activities Department.
The family will hold a private graveside service.
