LAFAYETTE — Mary Leah Westphal, age 104, was received into the loving arms of her Lord on Saturday, June 2, 2018.
She was born on January 28, 1914 in Hardin County to the late Charles C. and Lillian E. (Eversole) Long. On March 21, 1942 Mary married Fred E. Westphal, Jr. and he preceded her in death on December 25, 1999.
Mary was a graduate of LaFayette-Jackson High School in LaFayette, OH. She was an outstanding violinist, but she chose, instead, to devote her life to caring for others, graduating from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Lima, OH as a Registered Nurse. For many years, she cared for her family and served others as a nurse. She and Fred were long-time members of LaFayette United Methodist Church and County Line Church of the Brethren. After retiring, Mary and Fred lived in Florida for a number of years, where they both enjoyed fishing and where Mary developed ever greater skills in artwork and in painting chinaware, many articles of which are cherished possessions of her family.
She is survived by her son, William I. (Beverly) Westphal of Avon, Indiana. Mary also leaves behind two grandsons: Kevin Westphal of Roswell, GA and Brian (Angela) Westphal of Canton, GA and a great-granddaughter, Ellie Westphal, also of Canton, GA.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Ann Westphal and her sister, Doris Sampson.
