Michael Herbst

1993 - 2025

LIMA -- Michael M. Herbst, age 73 of Lima, passed at 4:05 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2025 peacefully at home. He was born May 18, 1951 to the late Herm K. and Betty L. Rabley Herbst. On March 31, 1993 he married Theresa Bellman, who survives in Lima.

He was the proud owner of Mike's Aircraft Sales, where he specialized in selling single-engine planes. A skilled pilot and a passionate aviator, he had a lifelong love for flying.

Beyond aviation, Michael was an avid fisherman and was honored as Florida's Crappie Club 2015 Fisherman of the Year. He cherished time spent on the water, whether casting a line or enjoying boat rides with his family. A dedicated Ohio sports fan, he faithfully cheered on Ohio State Football, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Michael served in the Ohio National Guard and had a deep appreciation for animals, always having a special pet by his side.

Above all, family was at the heart of Michael's life. He treasured every moment with his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren, who held a special place in his heart.

He is survived by 2 sons- Tim M. (Julie) Herbst of New Knoxville; Nathan C. (Ashley) Metzger of Van Wert; a daughter – Katie A. (Chris) Bassett of Lima; 6 grandchildren – Masen, Adalyn, Gavin, Sophie, Colton, and Aiden; and a sister – Chris (Al) Dentino of Sterling, MA.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2025 at Bayiff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. A private family service and burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
