KALIDA -- Nicholas John Ricker, 56, of Kalida, passed away at 6:59 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born June 22, 1969, in Lima to Sigmund and Carol (Calvelage) Ricker. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Fort Jennings. On June 4, 2011, he married Janice Karhoff, who survives in Kalida.
Nicholas is also survived by a son, Tyler (Nicole) Karhoff of Findlay; two grandchildren: Levi and Owen Karhoff; three sisters: Sandy (Randy) Marshall of Harrod, Janis (Craig) Croft and Dee (Kevin Westerbeck) Talerico, both of Spencerville; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Bob and Sue Karhoff of Kalida; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Tammy (Don) Ellerbrock, Marcia (Dennis) Schmitz, both of Ottawa, Phil (Lisa) Karhoff of Kalida, Jaimey (Mita) Karhoff and Deb (Jim) Blankenship, both of Hilliard; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Adam Cockerell; and his beloved dog, Sadie.
Nicholas was a graduate of Spencerville High School and became a carpenter with Schimmoeller Construction, Kalida. He also enjoyed working for Pyrotechnics and setting off firework displays for local shows. He loved vacationing with family and friends, fishing, tinkering in his garage, and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kalida, with Fr. Joseph Varghese officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Jackson Township.
Memorial donations may be made to Putnam County CAP or a charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be expressed at www.lovefuneralhome.com.
