CAIRO -- Norma Ilene Martz, age 95, passed away at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora, on October 1, 2022. She was born on August 8, 1927, in Rimer, Ohio, to Oscar M. and Jessie M. (Caskey) Renner who both preceded her in death. On August 15, 1948, she married Lewis A. Martz who died on March 28, 2006.
Norma is survived by her three sons, James Boyd (Julie) Martz of Columbus Grove, Gregory Alan (Linda) Martz of Cairo, and Kent Eric Martz of Wapakoneta; three daughters Lou Ann (Edwin) Suter of Ottawa, Donna Mae Reinsel of Ocala, FL, and Cynthia Ilene (Richard) Wallace of Columbus Grove. Eleven grandchildren; Jennifer Martz, Jeromie Martz, Wesley Martz, Tiffany Martz, Aaron Suter, Eric Suter, Ashley Suter, Ryan Jones, Renee Jones, Bradley Wallace and Sandra Murphy. Three step-grandchildren; Tony Bowers, Dawn Garver, and James Reinsel. Also surviving are eighteen great-grandchildren and step great-granchildren. A sister Marjorie Bourne of Phoenix, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by son-in-law William Reinsel, three brothers; Orman, John, and Dale Renner; and three sisters; Methel Benroth, Mary Humphrey, and Helen Lewis.
Norma was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church and it's choir for 70 years. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxillary 516, Eagles Erie 370 Auxillary, St. Rita's Rehab for 19 years, card clubs, the Red Hats Society, and LOFF Club. When Norma was 5 years old her mother had her singing at Ottawa River Church, Rimer, and other locations throughout Allen County and she continued throughout her lifetime with groups such as; Monica Stevens Singers, Barbershop Singing, and many soloist performances throughout the community at rest homes and area churches. She was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, and Ohio State Buckeyes. She loved parties and people, no matter where she went she always seemed to find someone she knew. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Friends may call at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm and from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am on Friday, October 7, 2022. Pastor Thomas Holmes presiding. Burial to follow at Cairo East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Cairo United Methodist Church or St. Rita's Hospice.
