RICHARD EVANS

BLUFFTON — Richard B. Evans, age 94, formerly of Lima, passed away November 30, 2016, at the Willow Ridge in Bluffton. Richard was born September 26, 1922 in Columbus, OH, to Rush E. and Helen (Beach) Evans who preceded him in death. On January 18, 1976 he married Judith Kingsmore Evans (neé Grannis) who survives and resides in Bluffton.

Richard graduated from The Ohio State University in 1946 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He was an Army Air Corp pilot in World War II . Richard was a former member and elder in the Market Street Presbyterian Church and a current member of the Bluffton Presbyterian Church. He was also a life member of B.P.O.E. #54 Lima Elks Lodge and a member of the Masonic Antioch Shrine of Dayton, OH.

Richard retired after working six years as vice president of Lima Memorial Hospital. Prior to that he spent 30 years with Pangles Master Markets, the last ten as president.

Always very active in Lima's civic affairs, he served as president of many local organizations; including Lima Chamber of Commerce, Lima Better Business Bureau, Lima YMCA, Lima Rotary Club, Lima United Way, Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Foundation, Lima Area Development Corporation, Lima Junior Achievement and Lima Fraternal Order of Police Association. He served as a board member of Bank One Lima, Shawnee Country Club and the Salvation Army and was vice president of Lima Convalescent Home. Earlier this year, the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Parks District opened the Evans Archery Range in his honor.

Richard enjoyed outdoor sports and was an ardent hunter and fisherman. He had hunted big game in Africa, Alaska, Canada and the western United States. A number of his Africa trophies are listed in the Roland Ward record book.

In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his three daughters; Helen Imbrock, April (Glen) Spurlock and Carol (Todd) Slight all of Napoleon, OH and 3 step-sons; John F. Grannis of Newhall, CA, Steven (Nancy) Grannis of Pleasant Hill, CA and Mark (Sarah) Grannis of Chevy Chase, MD, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11:00 am at the CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, SHAWNEE CHAPEL . Officiating the service will be Rev. David Good. Following the service military honors will be performed by the VFW #1275 and the U.S. Army. Burial will be held privately at a later date in the family plot in Hillsboro, OH.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2-5 pm at the SHAWNEE CHAPEL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bluffton Presbyterian Church, Johnny Appleseed Park or the YMCA. Condolences may be expressed at chiles-lamanfh.com
