LIMA — Richard B. Sparrow, 94, of Lima, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 4:45 p.m. at Lima Convalescent Home in Lima.
He was born on April 16, 1924 in Springfield, Ohio to the late Edgar and Phoebe (Wibley) Sparrow. On September 6, 1947, he married Leonetta Sandy, who preceded him in death on April 14, 1997.
Richard was a WWII Navy Veteran and wore his hat proudly. He was a conductor for CSX Terminals and retired after 34 years. He was a member of the Eagles, VFW, the American Legion, and the First Evangelical and Reformed Church. He enjoyed playing golf, woodworking, and most of all, attending his grandchildren's athletic events.
He is survived by his children: Linda Boger, David (Brenda) Sparrow, Bruce (Rhonda) Sparrow, Jeffrey (Karen) Sparrow, and Joseph Sparrow, grandchildren: Shane (Jennifer) Boger, Amy (Matt) Boedecker, Joshua (Kristie) Boger, and April Mershman, 2 step-grandchildren: Amy Thiaw and Rob Oldham, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
Richard was preceded in death by his son Stephen Sparrow, grandson Travis Sparrow, son-in-law Donald Boger, 1 brother, and 2 sisters.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 5-8PM at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, OH.
A funeral service will be on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 12 PM at the funeral home. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service from 11AM-12PM. Pastor Mark Bayliff will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima, OH.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Evangelical and Reformed Church, 320 W. Wayne St. Lima, Ohio 45801.
