LEIPSIC -- Steven J. "Massy" Niese, 65 of Leipsic, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at his residence. He was born February 14, 1960, in Lima to Eugene and Helen (Schmenk) Niese, his father is deceased, his mother survives in Leipsic. On April 1, 2002, he married Deborah Sutherland, she survives in Bowling Green.
Steve is also survived by four children: Sherry (James) Valdez of Leipsic, Carla (Adam) Treadway of McComb, Steven E. (Alison) Niese of Harrod, and Devin (Keith) Inbody of Ottawa; step-children: Jennifer (Michelle) Adams-Swain of Bowling Green, Bradley (Katelyn) Adams of Ottawa, Sarah (Chris Shaski) Adams; grandchildren: Mia Valdez, Morgan Valdez, Tucker Beagle, Cody Beagle, Thurston Treadway, Tenley Treadway, Kailyn Goodman, Jessica Goodman, Jenna Goodman, Lane Lee; step grandchildren: Emily Adams-Swain, Lincoln Adams, Levi Adams, and Lucas Adams; siblings: Barbara (Robert) Meyer, Sue (Punky) McDaniel, Michael (Kathryn) Niese, Catherine (John) Fortman, Mark (Christine) Niese, Mary Jo (Joe) Bodart, Patty (Tom) Giesken, Julie (Bernie) Breece, Dale (Jodi) Niese, Dorothy (Terry) Lammers, Christine (Alex) Chapman, and Roger (Georgette) Niese.
Steve worked at Ward Construction Company from December 26, 1989, and retired on February 14, 2025. He had worked for Bill Hill Trucking up until 1989. He was a member of Leipsic Rod and Gun, social member of the VFW, and former member of the Leipsic Eagles. Steven loved riding his Harley, all motorsports, gardening and eagles. He liked watching purple martins and loved animals. He was a friend of Bill's for 14 years and had a wonderful AA family.
Funeral Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Love-Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Leipsic. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Leipsic. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Putnam County Dog Shelter.
