ELIDA -- Wilbur Alfred Bowman peacefully passed into eternity on February 1, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on November 18, 1937, the 12th child of the family of 15 born to Carl and Margaret (Metzger) Bowman.
He was a graduate of Gomer High School. On June 25, 1960, he was united in marriage with Bonnie Layman. Realizing his need for a Savior he received Christian baptism and became a member of Ash Grove Old German Baptist Brethren Church to which he was faithful for life.
Dad was known and appreciated by many in the Lima area during the 42 years he worked as a plumber. He was a faithful, kind, and loving brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Helping others and interacting with his grandchildren was his way of life.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, his children and their spouses, Kevin K. (Mary Jo) Bowman, Sheldon (Rebecca) Bowman, Jill (Kevin D.) Bowman, Gordon (Kelly) Bowman, and Judie (Kevin) Mahin; 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard and Eldon Bowman: sisters, Mary Jane Wolf and Janice Bohnstedt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Jacob Bowman; siblings, Helen Layman, Lucille Bowman, Vera Mowery, Anna Vermillion, Leah Doyle, Ronald, Raymond, Marvin, and Harold Bowman, and Dorothy Miller.
The past years were made difficult as dementia robbed his mind. We rejoice that Grandpa Wilbur has been healed and made whole.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday and services at 10:00 am Thursday, February 6, 2025 all at Ash Grove Old German Baptist Brethren Church with the Home Brethren officiating. Burial will follow in Ash Grove Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the Meadows of Delphos for their compassionate care.
