William Shirk Obituary

CRIDERSVILLE — William "Bill" E. Shirk, 92, formerly of Indian Lake, passed away Sunday afternoon, February 21, 2021 at Otterbein Cridersville.

William was born on April 27, 1928 in Bellefontaine, OH, a son of the late Frank and Edna Shirk. He married Margaret "Peg" Mohl on May 16, 1966 in New Carlisle, OH and she preceded him in death on January 29, 2017. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Anne Tyson and a niece, Susan Tyson.

Bill is survived by six children, Jane Ragozine of Akron, OH, William F. (Mary Beth) Shirk of Powell, OH, David (Katrina) Shirk of Mason, OH, Adam Shirk of Columbus, OH, Kelly (Michael) Misich of Delaware, OH, and Andrew (Devry) Shirk of Lima, OH, 13 grandchildren, Steven Case, Domonic Ragozine, Jackie McKeen, Madeline Sokol, Ellen Shirk, Aidan Shirk, Riley Shirk, Connor Shirk, Jon Misich, Sophia Heck, Avery Shirk, Mitchell Shirk and Halley Shirk, two great grandchildren, Jack Case, and Leo McKeen, and two nephews, Scott Tyson and Mark Tyson.

Bill was a 1946 graduate of Bellefontaine High School. He earned his bachelor's degree at Denison University in 1950. After serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War, he earned his law degree in 1957 from The Ohio State University Law School. Bill was a partner at Shirk & Schrader Attorney-at-Law in Lakeview. He served as Bellefontaine Municipal Court Judge from 1964 – 1975. Bill was an active member of Indian Lake Community Church in Russells Point, where he was a former Deacon, Elder and member of the church choir. He was extremely active in his community holding membership with Indian Lake FA&M #722, former Indian Lake Elks, Indian Lake Moose #1533, Indian Lake Eagles #3615, Doyle R. Miller Amvets Post #39, Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and Symposiarchs. He was a former EMT with Indian Lake EMS, and member of Otterbein Choir and Hilliker YMCA. Bill received the distinguished Person of the Year from Indian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed boating and sailing on Indian Lake, vacationing in Florida and Gulf Shores, AL, skiing, playing piano, listening to Jazz Music, playing Bridge and was a member of the Men's Duplicate Bridge Club.

Pastor Jim Ellington will begin graveside services at 1:15 pm, Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Due to state Covid-19 pandemic guidelines, attendees are asked to be symptom free, maintain social distancing and wear a facial covering.

Memorial contribution may be given in his name to Indian Lake Community Church or Our Daily Bread of Indian Lake.
