William Vermillion Obituary
LIMA -- William E. "Bill" Vermillion, 73, of Lima passed away at 2:56 AM on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Lima Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 8, 1951, in Lima to Ralph and Wilma (Ruppert) Vermillion, who both preceded him in death. On June 16, 1973, he married Pamela J. "Pam" Smithhisler, who survives in Lima.
He was a 1969 graduate of Bath High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from The Ohio State University. Bill was a true inspiration as both a teacher and coach. For 48 years, Bill served at both Allen East and Bath local schools, making a lasting impact on students, both in the classroom, on the track, and on the cross country course. He was a gifted driver's ed instructor, known for his commitment and dedication. Bill's influence extended beyond academics and athletes as he mentored students, guiding them towards their full potential. Bill will be forever remembered for his kindness, devotion and the profound impact he had on so many lives. He was a track official for over 50 years as where he spent his last Friday night doing what he loved officiating his last track meet.
Surviving in addition to his wife are their children: Todd (Ellen) Vermillion, Rob (Brandi) Vermillion, Mandy (Jason Hart) Vermillion-Green and Melissa "Missy" Vermillion; his grandchildren: Caden Vermillion, Lili Green, Kyra Vermillion, Karson Green, William Vermillion, Laila Vermillion, Kaylor Vermillion and Grace Vermillion; and his siblings: Lois (Larry) Risser and Russell (Faye) Vermillion.
He was preceded in death by his sister Alberta M. Lee and his brother Harold Vermillion.
As per his wishes, Bill has donated his body to The Ohio State University Anatomical Sciences Program.
Memorial Services will be held at Noon, on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel. His visitation will be on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and again on Thursday from 11-12 P.M. at the funeral home.
Chaplain Bernie Horn will officiate the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Allen East Local School Scholarship or Bath Local School Scholarship.

I´ve thought about Bill´s many - MANY qualities and feel his greatest attribute can be summed up with one word. Honesty. There was never any doubt in the words he spoke or the deeds he did. If he had a question, he didn´t hesitate to ask. He was always an open book and I enjoyed being around him. God bless his family. Do his legacy proud. Steph & Bill Badertscher
