Frank Stone Obituary



Frank Andrews Stone (1929-2014), second son of Ruth Sherman Andrews and Royal Amidon Stone, was born in Wilmington, DE. After a very mobile growing up living in a dozen towns in six states, Frank Settled for fifteen years in Tarsus and Ankara, Turkey as a Teacher/administrator at the Tarsus American College (lise level) and a visiting professor at Hacettepe University from 1953 to 1970. Then he was Professor of Educational Studies at Neag School of Education, the University of Connecticut, Storrs for twenty-five years. After attaining emeritus status, he was a part-time adjunct professor at Trinity College, Hartford, CT for five years. An ordained minister of the United Church of Christ, Frank also did supply preaching and pastoral counseling. Barbara May Tinkham and Frank were married on the Tarsus American College campus by Dr. William L. Nute, Sr. on June 15, 1956. Their married life together was for forty-six years until Barbara's death in 2002. They had five children: David Taner (Melissa), Ruth Sevim, Ann Emel (died in infancy), Beth Alev (David Joseph) Stone Bombeto, and Priscilla Gulen. His sister, Carol (Fred) Stone Lehman. Their beloved grandchildren are Megan Elizabeth Philippi (Nate), Mariah Lynn and Kurt Andrews Bombeto. A memorial service will held be at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Frank Andrews Stone and directed to the Andrews International Education Scholarship Fund which will provide financial support for a graduate student(s) in the field of International Education.
