Olive M. (Polly) Walker 1929 - 2018
Lincoln, IL—Olive (Polly) M. Walker, formerly of Lincoln, Illinois, passed away March 6, 2018, at Bickford Cottage in Urbandale, Iowa after a 7 year battle with Lewy Body dementia.
Polly was born November 29, 1929 in Lime Springs Iowa to Glen and Ruby Jones. She was married to John S. Walker in 1951in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Jeanette Jones and new brother-in-law, John Andreae. Polly and John enjoyed 60 plus years of marriage. They played hundreds of games of bridge and cribbage and marriage highlights included trips to Lake Powell, AZ; Banff, Canada and a cruise to Alaska.
In Washington, Iowa,Polly and John raised two children; Pam Walker Barton of Urbandale Iowa and Phillip Walker of Boulder, Colorado. Polly worked as the secretary of the United Methodist Church for many years and also as a study hall supervisor at the Washington Middle School.
In their 30 years in Lincoln, Illinois, Polly worked as a secretary for a Real Estate Company and was a volunteer driver for the Lincoln United Methodist Church taking people to medical appointments. She was a lifetime member of PEO.
Polly was an extrovert and is the reason the word was created. A spirit of light and energy, "Perky" Polly was known for her cookie baking skills, bringing cookies to coffees and birthdays and baking a large variety for Christmas.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents Glen and Ruby Jones, her brother John G. Jones, her sisters Mary Ellen Prestegaarde and Jeannette Andreae. She is survived by her husband and best friend John; daughter Pam (and son-in-law, Denny) and son Phillip; grandchildren, Jackson (and granddaughter-in-law, Kalyn), Brooklyn and Cayley.
