Vera Louise Brown Downing Harris
MT. PULASKI - Vera Louise Brown Downing Harris, 89, of Lincoln, formerly of Mt. Pulaski and Nashville, TN, died at 12:00 noon July 4, 2012 at the Christian Village in Lincoln, IL.
Following high school Vera attended Browns' Business College in Nashville, TN and worked at Life and Casualty. On May 7, 1943 she married Lester Downing of Mt. Pulaski, IL. Vera worked at Lehn and Fink in Lincoln for 30 years. She was a member of the Mt. Pulaski Christian Church. Her husband preceded her in death in October of 1990. Vera married Walter C. Harris of Nashville, TN in February of 1992, and he preceded her in death in August of 2003. In the fall of 2003 she moved to Pekin, IL, to be near family. Her latest move was to the Christian Village in Lincoln in October of 2010.
She is survived by one daughter Darlene (Jeff) Thompson of Pekin, IL, one son C. Wayne Downing of Tamuin, Mexico, three grandchildren, Whitney (Dale) Miller of Pekin, IL, Joshua (Bree) Thompson of Pekin, IL, Charlsie (Steve) DeHorsey of Cape May Courthouse, NJ, six great-grandchildren Breanne Miller, Ross Miller, Aleia Miller, Sophie Thompson, Brody Thompson, all of Pekin, IL and Andrew James DeHorsey of New Jersey. Also surviving Vera are two brothers Johnny Brown of Sparta, TN and Grady Brown of Nashville, TN, a step-daughter-in-law Claynita Harris and two step grandchildren Seth Harris and Breena Harris all of Nashville.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, her parents, one brother Joe C. Brown and one sister Jessie Bell.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday July 9, 2012 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Mt. Pulaski with Jeff Thompson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Mt. Pulaski Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials made to the Christian Village.
