Anthony Pope Obituary

Anthony "Tony" Pope was born on January 8, 1959, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Alphonso and Mary (Grant) Pope. On Friday May 16, 2025, at 5:05pm Tony went home to be with the Lord. Tony was united in marriage to the love of his life Mary Ann Harvey, on June 22, 1985. He called her (Mur). To this union two daughters were born. Toni Marie Pope and Bianca Cheyenne Pope. Tony graduated from Withrow High School in 1977. After High School, he was employed at the Welfare Department, now known as Job and Family Services. Tony worked his way up to Supervisor and was well known, loved, and respected. After 30 years of service, Tony retired with full benefits at the young age of 49. Tony loved retirement. Being able to sleep in, babysit, run errands, pick up, and spend time with grandkids brought him so much joy. Tony took great pride in his house and was known in the neighborhood for working in his yard, which he loved. Neighbors would often stop and compliment him on his home and yard. He even won the "Pretty Place Award." Tony was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He loved family, especially his daughters and grandkids. They could do no wrong in his eyes. Tony was also a lover of old school music and could often be found sitting on the porch with a cool beverage, playing music. Sports were also a passion of his. He played softball from the time he was a child to age 50. When he could no longer play, he began coaching. Tony will forever be known for his loyalty, sense of humor and generosity. He was a protector, a man that prioritized the well-being of others before his own. He will be remembered most for his love and devotion to family and friends. Tony leaves to cherish in his memory his wife Mary Ann (Harvey) Pope of 40 years, Daughters Toni Marie (Pope) Upshaw (Diron), Bianca Cheyenne Pope (Tony), Granddaughters Dynasty Me'Asia Upshaw, Kimaria Ann Upshaw, London Marie Valentine Upshaw, Grandsons Anthony William Truman Upshaw and Asaiah Cortez Whitmire. Brothers Alphonso Pope II (Deborah), Michael Pope, Gerald Pope (Deborah), Kenneth Pope (Lois), Kevin Pope, Sisters Joyce Bolton (David), Deborah Brunson (Earl), Bonita Cook (Kenneth), and Godson Cliff Pope.
