David J. "Dave" Sheets

David J. Sheets, 68, of Erlanger, KY died on October 6, 2025, after a heroic battle with cancer. He was born in Covington, KY to John and Adelle (Cooper) Sheets. His life was a testament to love, resilience, and devotion. Dave worked at General Electric Engines for 38 years as a machinist. He was a dedicated provider to his wife, Kathy (Hanneken) of 48 years and to his three children. In addition to being an amazing and loving husband and father, his favorite role was papa to his six grandchildren. Dave showed people how to work hard at everything in life. He loved music and laughter. He was a great promoter of youth sports, including long time involvement in coaching girls softball, first in the Erlanger-Elsmere youth league and then St. Henry High School, and later as a weekly attendee to all of his grandchildren's various sports activities. He was an avid Reds, Bengals, and UK fan, most animated in their wins and losses. He loved competing and played several sports throughout his life: including men's softball, bowling, volleyball, and friendly backyard games. He loved golf and greatly enjoyed playing golf with his long-time golf buddies. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John. He is survived by his wife Kathy, children Stephanie (Sean) Donoghue, Rachael (Bryan) Perdue, David (Brandy) Sheets, grandchildren: Jamie, Laney, Rylan, Hudson, Marley and Mason; brother, Tim Sheets, sisters Kathy (Mike) Weber, Julie Sheets, Barb (Ben) Schultz, sister-in-law Vickie Sheets, several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many friends all of whom he loved very much. We will miss him every day, but we are so grateful for everything we learned from him and for all the love he gave us. His was a life well lived. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM at Linnemann Funeral Homes, 30 Commonwealth Ave., Erlanger, KY 41018. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, 11:00 AM at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1839 Euclid Ave, Covington, KY 41014. Burial will take place at St. Mary's cemetery following the Mass. Suggested donations: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Reds Community Fund, or any youth sporting league.
