Deborah Sergeant Obituary

Deborah J. Sergeant
April 4, 1955 - June 7, 2025
A lover of nature, animals, and beauty closed her eyes for the last time with her family at her side on Saturday, June 7, 2025 in Manhattan, after a courageous 10-year battle with multiple myeloma. Deborah Jean Sergeant, loving wife of 28 years to Gary Sergeant, enjoyed their home in Roxbury, Connecticut, the town where she grew up, attending Booth Free School in Roxbury, Wykeham Rise in Washington, and later college in Connecticut.
At age 19, Deborah was the first woman bartender at America's oldest tavern, The White Horse Tavern in Newport, RI during the 1974 America's Cup yacht races. In her 20s, she shared her natural beauty and grace modeling for Wilhemina in New York. Deborah displayed her sense of style and creativity as a professional stylist in print, video, and television, including prop styling windows for high fashion designers, such as Ralph Lauren at his flagship Madison Avenue store. She later had her own interior design company, Beez, decorating homes in New York and Connecticut.
Deborah and Gary's love of art and history drew them together at Sergeant Antiques in Woodbury, Connecticut. She added a dimension of elegance to Gary's lifelong passion for period furniture and decorative arts. Deborah had a keen eye for detail and could recognize beauty and quality with ease. She also served as a member of the Historic District Commission in Roxbury.
Deborah's mother, Jean, and father, Owen, predeceased her. Deborah is survived by her husband, Gary; brother Gregory Taylor, his wife Lois, and their son Samuel; her sister Dawn Morgan and Dawn's husband, Stuart Park; and her brother Ronald Cabral.
At a date to be determined, a memorial will be held at Halcyon Show Stables in Litchfield, Connecticut, where Deborah spent time enjoying and riding her two horses.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to H.O.R.S.E of Connecticut, www.horseofct.org

We are grateful for our long friendship with Deb and Gary Sergeant over these 20+ years since we arrived in Litchfield County. Deb was beautiful on the inside and out, super smart, highly creative, and always brimming with new ideas and plans. She was a gifted interior designer and we loved working with her on our home. Deb also had a terrific sense of humor that always guaranteed lots of fun and belly laughs at our gatherings. We are so deeply sorry for your loss, Gary. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and were touched by her strength and fortitude . RIP, Deb.
