Gayle McEwen Obituary

Gayle Gibson McEwen passed away in her sleep at home in Cocolalla ID September 18 after a lengthy and courageous battle with COPD and lung cancer, she was 76.

Gayle was the youngest of five children born into the family of Robert Gibson (aka Randall Grant) and Shirley(Kate)Gibson of Sand Springs MT and very proud to be the only one born at the hospital in Jordan. She attended the Gibson ranch school with her sisters until the family moved to Miles City where she attended Kircher school, Custer High School and finally Mt. Ellis Academy in Bozeman. In 1968 she met and married Robert "Mac" McEwen. Mac already had four children in North Dakota, Robert II, Donna, Lynn and Jim whom Gayle considered her "bonus" children. Mac and Gayle welcomed Michelle in 1969 and Mason in 1970. Mac and Gayle divorced in 1979, he passed in 1984. She never remarried.

Gayle was a hard worker and very smart and had a few careers in her lifetime finally retiring from real estate appraising and finishing her working days with the wonderful people at the Miles City Vision Clinic.

She loved to travel, laugh, play any board/card game, practical jokes, movies, gardening and most of all gabbing with her multitude of friends. She never met a stranger and we were all richer for it. The last few years she enjoyed the weekly card games with her friends Bob/Kathi Moore, texting her childhood friend Jackie Gregg in the middle of the night, texting with Leigh Ann Cashdollar, joking with Eric Van Winkle whenever possible and trying to touch base with Renee' Conley to the end. She played online Scrabble, had many Words with Friends and she Crushed ALL the Candy.

Gayle is survived by her dog Guido; daughter Michelle (Brent)Stephens ID; daughter-in-law Deann Stabio McEwen MT; Donna (Cameron (Kaiel and Brooke/Gabrielle/ Ganessa)) Tabbert ND; Jim (Abigail(Aidan/ Keera)) McEwen ND; Josh McEwen OK; Kasandra (Stacy) Church MN, Leigh McKenzie (Brandon Michel) ND, Chelsea McKenzie (Austin Ackerman) ND, Lacey (Rachel) Stockie FL; Marion Gibson, Sheryl Gibson and Steven Barnes NV, Eleanor(Tim) Myers OR, Robert Barnes (Maralee Evans) CA; David Mayotte, Jessica Mayotte, Rebecca Collins CA; Julie (Butch) Raymond, Nick Hafla, Cindy (Kelly) Conley MT; Terry Pack, Kelly (Kristy) Pack MD and Tristan Demers MT.

She was preceded in death by her son Mason, husband Mac, Robert McEwen II, Lynn McKenzie and Diane McEwen; nephews Wayne and Todd Gibson; siblings Nevin Gibson, Rosemary Mayotte, Laurie Gibson and Sherry and Pete Pack.

Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of cards and flowers please donate to your local animal shelter or the American Cancer Society.

To Gayle's family I send my my most heartfelt condolences. I have been searching for her for several months & didn't know she was in Miles City. She was my roommate in the mid sixties in 2 different apartments. We both got married & left & lost touch with each other. She was just the best roommate you could ask for & I'm so sad I didn't find her in time to tell her how much I cared for her. I will think of you all in my prayers.

Gayle always had a kind word and smile for me. She and my wife were very close. We are thankful for the blessing she has been to us.

Gayle was my dear friend, confidant and maternal guide. She took me under her wing. She was the kindest, most caring person. I am so thankful and blessed to have had her in my life. We miss her so much. Love you forever my friend!
