Daniel Saucedo Obituary
Daniel Saucedo
10/06/1946 - 10/06/2025
Daniel Saucedo, age 79, passed into the eternal embrace of our Lord on October 6, 2025, surrounded by his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and gifted engineer, Daniel lived a life that reflected God's grace in every season.
Born in Laredo, Texas, to Francisco and Florencia Saucedo, Daniel showed an early aptitude for problem-solving and had an insatiable curiosity for how things worked. Long hours spent disassembling TVs in high school sparked the beginning of an unforgettable journey in engineering. He had the mind of a true inventor-always at work, always observing. He never left home without a pocket notebook and pen in tow. In his words, "you never know when a good idea might come along." Daniel earned a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&I and went on to build a distinguished career that spanned four decades, earning accolades for his work in fiber optics, traffic control systems, surveillance and systems design.
Throughout his career, he was recognized for his sharp intellect, leadership, and boundless creativity. His work was not only influential but transformative, with lasting impacts on Houston roadways, and on all who had the privilege of working alongside him. Some of the companies Daniel worked for include DuPont, NASA, Singer Link, and Lockheed Martin. In 1989 he decided to open up his engineering consulting business from humble beginnings with the help of his wife Martha. It was his pride and joy serving his clients needs such as TxDOT and many other local and out of state agencies. Daniel felt that he was carrying his father's torch because his father served for 42 years in the Texas Highway Department which is now known as The Texas Department of Transportation. Daniel pioneered "ITS" Intelligent Transportation Systems in Texas, and you can see the highway cameras that were interconnected with fiber optics to Houston Transtar. Daniel was known by his peers as the "King of ITS". Daniel was recognized in Washington D.C. by then United States Secretary of Transportation Federico Pena for his accomplishments and innovation for the transportation industry.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Daniel's greatest pride was his family and ranching. He is survived by Martha, the love of his life and steadfast companion through 48 years of shared dreams and unwavering devotion. He leaves behind his beloved children -Tiffani and Joel-with their spouses, and his cherished grandchildren: Danae, Jacob, Marina, Zoe and Zara. At special events, he could always be found cheering the loudest and smiling the brightest wherever his grandchildren were. Daniel was a master of the backyard grill, where the aroma of sizzling barbecue mingled with ham radio tales, deer hunting adventures, or a recounting of his college days. Beneath open skies at his beloved ranch, Daniel taught not only how to build a fire or fix an engine, but how to live with resilience, determination and a heart that beats steadily through life's storms. These principles are the heritage he has blessed upon his family.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Luke Catholic Church in Houston, Texas, Thursday, October 16, at 11:00am., with visitation one hour prior to the service.
His memory is a blessing that will live on in the hearts of family and friends.
