Marta Y. Gutierrez, 86, passed away peacefully at home, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born on January 19, 1939 to Manuel and Consuelo Guerrero, Marta lived a beautiful life full of love and laughter.
A beacon of light and warmth, Marta raised six children with her husband of 60 years, Henry E. Gutierrez. She shared her warmth in her profession as a nurse at Mercy Hospital and the VA Clinic of Laredo. Her profession as a nurse was equally her passion.
She loved most to spend her time in the presence of her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed animals, often feeding the birds who nested at her home, and provided love to her dogs: Tootsie, Mathilde, and Phoebe.
Marta was predeceased by her parents, Manuel and Consuelo Guerrero; her brother, Juan Gilberto Guerrero; and her husband, Henry E. Gutierrez.
She is survived by her children: Marta (Larry) Farlin, Marisela (Gerardo) Castañeda, Melissa (Eric) Garcia, Mariana Gutierrez, Henry E. Gutierrez II, Bernabe G. Gutierrez, and Eric Wickstrom; three grandchildren: Margaret Farlin (Matt) Forbes, Andrea Ari Castañeda, and Eric Anthony Garcia; her great-grandchildren: Theodore M. Forbes and Norah L. Forbes; her sister-in-law, Norma Guerrero and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Josefina Martinez, Ismael Juarez, and Alfa Home Health & Hospice.
A funeral service was held at Hillside Funerals & Cremations, Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 7:00 am to 10:30 am with a Rosary at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 11:00 am.
Rite of Committal and Interment continued to the City of Laredo Cemetery, where she was laid to rest alongside her beloved husband.
Pallbearers were Eric Garcia, Eric Anthony Garcia, Eric Wickstrom, Carlo Hein, Ismael Juarez, and Larry Farlin.
