Donald Filomeo Obituary

Donald Joseph Filomeo, a long-time resident of Acampo and recently of Lodi, passed away October 26, 2009, at the age of 83, after battling a lengthy illness.
Donald was born on August 23, 1926, to John Paul and Madeline Filomeo and was raised on the family fruit ranch in Martinez, California.
In 1952, he married Elfonda Leray Reddell. In 1962, they purchased property in Acampo, where they raised their family. Donald was a member of Teamsters Local 329 until 1968, when he joined Operating Engineers Local 3. He spent his life driving truck, operating heavy equipment and farming.
His hobbies included going to farm equipment auctions, participating in Oak View School's PTA and 4-H club and outings with his family to the coast or the mountains. His greatest delight was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years; his five children: Sharon Baker (John) of Lodi, David Filomeo of Martinez, Melanie Geist (Clifford) of Lodi, Sheila Filomeo of Lodi, and Julie Flaherty (William) of Galt; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his siblings: Vivian Cannelora of Martinez, CA, Bobby Filomeo of Antelope, OR, Elmer Filomeo (Janet) of Palo Cedro, CA, and Laverne Crites (Floyd) of Canby, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John Filomeo; his sister, Dorothy Cooper; and grandson, Brandon Baker.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 1, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Lockeford. There is no visitation, and committal is private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to donor's choice. A virtual register book may be signed at www.lodifuneralhome.com where memories can be shared.

Elfonda and family

We are sorry to hear the loss of Donald, I will always remember the stories that my father has told me of their younger days as kids growing up on the ranch and the good times that he lived. All relatives and family friends will remember him best at grandmas house on Christmas eve and family gatherings . We all will miss him

Dear Julie and family, I am so sorry for your loss...Always remember the good times that you shared and he's really not that far away, just look up and talk to him and he will listen. I don't know if you have heard the story about pennys from heaven. The saying is that if you find a penny, that is your loved one letting you know that he is with you... I keep mine in a special jar....just a thought.. take care and God bless all of you...
