James "Jim" Weybret Obituary

James Alan "Jim" Weybret of Lodi succumbed to a complication of long-term illnesses and died Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at a Stockton hospital. He was 70.
Jim was born July 27, 1953 in LaGrande, Oregon where his father Fred Weybret was publisher of the LaGrande Evening Observer. The family moved to Paso Robles, California in 1955 and to Lodi in 1959 when Fred purchased the Lodi News-Sentinel.
Jim attended Woods School until sixth grade, Mother Lode Academy in Sutter Creek for seventh and eighth grades and graduated from Lodi High School in 1971. He received a bachelor's degree in business management from San Jose State University, and a master's degree from the American Graduate School of International Management in Arizona.
After graduation he worked for Garrett Air Research in Torrance, California and met his future wife during that time.
Jim married Lorna Gerding on Aug. 3, 1985 in Palos Verdes Peninsula and they settled in Lodi where Jim became business manager of the Lodi News-Sentinel. In 1998, Jim left the Lodi News-Sentinel due to illness. He and Lorna divorced sometime later.
Jim was a member of Civitan and Lions service clubs. He also served on the board of the Lodi Boys & Girls Club. He loved travelling, the Grateful Dead, snow and water skiing, boating on the Delta, judo and fast cars. As a teenager he raced go-karts and later bought a Chevelle muscle car. During college he was a member of the SJSU varsity judo team and later earned a judo black belt.
He was preceded in death by this mother Alcyon Weybret and his father Frederick E. Weybret. He is survived by two daughters: Juliet Weybret of Franklin, Tennessee and Kate Weybret and her partner Marcel Croxson of London, United Kingdom; by brother Marty Weybret and his wife Christi Weybret of Lodi; by former wife Lorna Lemmons of Lodi; by two nephews: Mike Weybret of Carlsbad, California and Rob Weybret and his wife Donna Weybret of Lodi and their young sons, great-nephews Charlie and Ben Weybret.
A private celebration of life is planned.
The family would appreciate donations in Jim's memory to the Lodi Boys & Girls Club of Lodi (275 Poplar St, Lodi, CA 95240 or www.bgclodi.com), the Salvation Army, Lodi (P.O. I´m sorry to learn of Jim´s passing and send nothing but love to the entire Weybret family. I only worked with Jim for a short time but his gifts were apparent. He was sharp, compassionate and so very funny. I loved his wit. I hope he´s found peace and knows that he was loved and appreciated.
