Joanne Wiebe Obituary

Joanne Wiebe, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (Oma), went to be with the Lord on September 23, 2014 while surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.
Joanne was born in Morris, Manitoba, Canada on July 16, 1926 to Rev. Gerhard and Gertrude Schroeder.  At the age of 19 she married Harry Wiebe, the love of her life for 68 years. They lived in Canada for three years and then moved to Lodi in 1949 where they raised their three children.
They attended Temple Baptist Church where she was a member for 65 years.   For many years she was a devoted Sunday School teacher and sang in the church choir. She was fondly called Grandma Wiebe by many of her Sunday School children. She was also active in Women's Missionary Fellowship. She was employed as a teacher's aide at several local schools for 10 years.
She was well known for her homemade bread which she faithfully baked and shared until her recent illness. She loved sewing, knitting and doing crossword puzzles, but most of all spending time with her family.
Joanne is survived by her beloved husband, Harry, loving children Ken (Donna)Wiebe, Gary (Christine) Wiebe, Susan (Carl) Wilkerson, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday September 25, 2014 12:00 – 8:00pm @ Cherokee Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi, CA 95240. Friends and family are also invited to the Memorial Service @ 2:00 pm Friday September 26, 2014 @ Temple Baptist Church, 801 S. Lower Sacramento Rd., Lodi, CA 95242.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joanne's name to Temple Baptist Building Fund, 801 S. Lower Sacramento Rd., Lodi, CA 95242. Please sign the guestbook online at www.cherokeememorial.com.

Grandma Wiebe touched so many young hearts. My adult children remember her fondly. She was such a warm and gentle soul. The world would be a better place if more followed her example. And now she rejoices.

It feels like a very strong anchor point in the Schroeder side of the family has now gone. We grieve, but know we are privileged to have had Auntie Jo in our family. Her memory lives on. What is mystery to us is her reality now. She is with her Savior whom she loved wholeheartedly. She gave Him her all.

Thinking of the Wiebe families with prayers. I used to go to the Wiebe house, after school with Susan, and could immediately smell the sweet aroma of freshly baked bread. I always wanted it, but would wait until I was invited to have a piece or two of that delightful warm bread. Joanne was always baking, or sewing, and always so nice to me. Thinking of you in your loss.

Uncle Harry and Family ... you are in our thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time, but know Auntie Joanne is at peace with God. We will all hang onto our memories of this sweet and gentle woman; Tom and I were so very please to have had the time to spend with both of you in Manitoba at the last family reunion. God bless. Love, Tom, Debbie and family.
