JOHANNA BROEKHOF-BUIJS Obituary
Johanna Maria Broekhof-Buijs, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 7, 2025. She was born in Spaarnwoude, the Netherlands, on November 17, 1928, to Johannes and Theodora Buijs.
Johanna immigrated to the United States with her late husband, Johannes Broekhof, shortly after their marriage in 1953. They first arrived in Turlock before settling in Lodi on North Ray Road, where they lived for more than 70 years. The couple began with a dairy farm and later grew grapes further down the same road. Known for their warm hospitality, they hosted countless gatherings filled with singing, dancing, card games, and bocce ball. Johanna was truly the life of the party.
She loved swimming at Lodi Lake and Hutchins Street Square until her husband surprised her with a pool of her own. As a volunteer "Pink Lady" at Lodi Memorial Hospital, she brought sunshine and cheer to patients and staff alike.
Her home was always open to family and friends, and she was the perfect hostess-offering coffee with a cookie or tea with a chocolate. Johanna cherished nature, animals, and life's simple pleasures. Her wish to remain in her cozy home was fulfilled thanks to the devoted care of her longtime caregiver, Saidy, for 20 years, and Marta for the final 5½ years of her life, and countless others who loved and cared for her needs.
Johanna was preceded in death by her husband, Johannes Broekhof, and her sister, Margaret Franse-Buijs of Lodi. Having no children of her own, she is survived by nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. She will be deeply missed by all who loved our fun-loving Tante (Aunt).
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, November 17-her would-be 97th birthday-at 10 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 215 W. Walnut St., Lodi. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of San Joaquin, 3888 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA 95204.
