I am so sorry and deeply saddened by this news. I have not been in touch with Julia since 1992 BC I moved my family and business to New York from Berkeley. I have always wanted to contact Julia.
Besides being her hair stylist at my shop in Berkeley, we became friendly and she began helping me with insurance/finances through NY Life.
I am shocked and feel sad for her life cut short. My heart goes out to Eric and her son and daughter and her family. She was a very smart, kind, fun, lively woman. I am sorry I did not find her sooner.
Godspeed,
Nancy Marano-Silva

I only meet Julia briefly when I worked at Edward Merlo's architectural firm located in Stockton, (back in the mid 80's) when she would come by to see Eric. (I worked extensively for Ed, both in and out of his office while attending college.)
Eric (Julia's husband, and Edward's son) was an architect, as well, and flanked his dad, along with his sister Arbela. I can attest that the whole Merlo clan was a very kind and first class group of people.
I extend my deepest and most sincere sympathy to the Merlo and Michelle families; especially Eric.
I very sorry for your loss...

Madame Merlo,
Today, day of giving thanks, I am thankful to have known you for the past ten years. You were a great lady! I will remember your natural elegance, your vast erudition, your love for education, your concern for others in particular for students, and your love for your family! You have influenced so many lives, including mine. Your legacy will never end because your children, your husband, your family will carry on and you will be with them forever.
I will never forget about you as long as I will live.
Merci Madame. Nous nous reverrons un jour dans un autre monde.

We will always remember Julia leading us, at the Allison reunion, in the funniest game of Jeopardy we ever did and ever will play. What an awesome person. We will miss her. Our sincere condolence for your loss.

I had the honor of working with Julia for ten years sharing an financial planning office with her. She was a person of the highest integrity & honesty along with being extremely intelligent. Her devotion to her family, friends & client's was beyond reproach. Though she could have continued being a very successful financial advisor she gave it up to pursue her real calling in life as an educator. Julia influenced young people's lives in such a positive way & I feel so blessed that she touched my life.

Mrs Merlo,
Thank you so much for the impact that you have had on my children. I know without a doubt that you have played a big role in who they are today as students and young women. I look forward to seeing what they'll be able to accomplish with the drive that you have instilled into them. I will miss our chats at the Renaissance assemblies and anytime we ran into each other at Peyton. I am sad that my son will not be your student next year. I was counting on you to shape him up. Julie will miss you dearly and will miss volunteering in your class room every other week. Thank you for being the dedicated and inspiring person that you were.
