Mildred Shandonay Obituary
Mildred (Millie) Shandonay came into this world, a little over 95 years ago. She spent most of her growing years in Lodi graduating from Lodi High School. She relocated to San Francisco during WWII and took a job in a driving pool for Naval Officers. It was about this time that she met her husband of 56 years Arthur (Art) J. Shandonay (deceased). They built a loving family of three daughters and one son, Nancy M. Maffei (deceased) (Urbano). Margaret S. Shandonay (deceased), Vance J. Shandonay (deceased) (Sonia), and Mary M. Shandonay. She was the loving grandmother to Anthony Maffei, Lisa Maffei and Dominic Maffei. And a blessed great-grandmother of four.
Millie was a woman who was happiest doing various jobs in her younger years to volunteering countless hours to various projects up until her early 90's. She had a propensity to be successful in everything she took on and when she was in-charge she was. Millie never outgrew her love of animals, Micki Grove Zoo being one of the recipients of many of her volunteer hours. However, love for her dogs throughout the years only grew and brought her indescribable joy and comfort. We could write a book on her adventures, like sky-diving on her 80th birthday; her yearly trips to her favorite spot, Mexico; her side splitting mischief; and just the day-to-day laughter you'd hear, making friends and an admirable reputation. Millie's demeanor was "life is great" many would not have known that in addition to the various hardships that life brings, she also cared for her Mother and Mother-in-law in their time of illnesses and had a child born with Cerebral Palsy. She never complained and lived by her motto of the "glass being half full" up until September 18th when after fiercely holding on to life she finally tired and started her journey to join her loved ones she so missed throughout the years.
A Memorial Mass will be Celebrated Thursday December 27th, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Christopher Parish, 950 S. Lincoln Way, Galt CA. We would like to thank Mission Hospice & Home Care in San Mateo, CA, for providing her the tender care and opportunity to live her last days without pain and leave this world peacefully and with dignity.
