Orlando Spero Obituary

Orlando (Lon) George Spero passed away Nov. 21, 2024, at the age of eighty-one following a diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia.
Lon was born and raised in San Francisco and loved growing up in the city. After moving to Lodi in
1982, he enjoyed taking Lodi friends on tours of the city sharing his life story during the 50's
and 60's.
Lon attended Catholic schools and graduated from Riordan High School. He went on to receive
his Master of Arts Degree in History and Economics from California State University, San
Francisco. Later Lon completed his Master of Science Degree, Counseling Degree, Driver Education, and a degree in School Administration.
His employment in the San Francisco Unified School District was disrupted by serving in the Army from 1969-1971.
Following his Army commitment he returned to teach history. Lon transferred to Lodi Unified
School District in 1982, as an administrator, retiring in 2003.
Lon's favorite past time was traveling to places he had studied while teaching history. Lon
and Nancy traveled to 160 countries including all seven continents, a feat of which he was proud.
He was also proud of training and running a marathon.
Lon leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Nancy Kessler Spero, his son John Spero (Lori), grandchildren as well as two
brothers, Robert and John, who live out of state.
The family would like to thank Oakmont of Lodi Memory Care Staff and Absolute Compassion Hospice
staff.

I remember how happy Nancy and Lon were and loved hearing about their travels. Nancy was a counselor at Tokay when I was teaching history and I always thought they were a wonderful couple. Blessings on your memories.

May you rest in peace Mr.Spero. You truly cared about the students at Liberty. You helped me turn into the man I am now by cutting a troubled youth a break. Thank you & God Bless your soul.

Lon showed us how to travel on cruises. Our first cruise was to Alaska in 2008. After that Royce was Lon's student of travel. We will miss our friend who was a traveler of nations.

My deepest sympathy and love to Lon´s wife, Nancy, his son, John, grandchildren and his two brothers.
His Love of Travel enabled him to appreciate the beauty of so many places. When I go to San Francisco, I will say a special prayer for him in the City he loved so much.
Fondly,
