Roy Platt, Jr. Obituary

Roy George Platt, Jr. passed away peacefully on the evening of December 9, 2020 at the age of 94.
Roy was the first-born son to Violet and Roy G. Platt, Sr., on September 28, 1926, in San Francisco. His brother Donald followed. The family moved to Daly City where their sister Betty was born.
The family moved to Riverdale, California in 1935. Roy graduated from Riverdale High School and the joined the Navy after he graduated. During WW II, Roy was assigned to the U.S.S. Botetourt, an attack transport, where he served as a gunner with the LCVP. After WWII ended, he re-enlisted and served in the Korean Conflict where he was stationed at Treasure Island. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
After his time in the service, Roy returned to Riverdale. He attended the College of the Sequoias where he played basketball and baseball.
He met his future wife, Geraldine (Jeri) Sams in 1952 and they were married in 1953 in Hanford.
Roy began his career with the California State Automobile Association (CSAA) in Hanford, California. He worked in San Jose, Reno and finally Lodi; working as a Claims Adjuster, Field Relief Adjuster and Claims Training staff before he retired in the early 90s.
During his retirement, Roy was one of the early volunteers of the Lodi Police Department Partners program where he served countless hours supporting the officers, administrative staff, and his community.
Roy enjoyed traveling with his wife Jeri and the many friends he made through CSAA and Lodi PD Partners. Some of their favorite places they visited included Alaska, Hawaii, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Chicago, New Orleans, Cambria, Morro Bay, Bodega Bay, Occidental, Clear Lake, and Santa Cruz. He enjoyed visiting and supporting the local wineries, learning about wine and\making many new friends.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Violet and Roy, Sr.; his brother, Donald Platt; his son, Terry Platt; and daughter-in-law, Jeannie Platt.
Roy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine; children, David (Anne), Steven (Kathi) and Susan (Jamie); grandchildren Michael, Elizabeth, Andrew (Liz), Jessie (Jordan) and Caitlin; great-granddaughter, Harper; and his sister, Betty Bickel.
The family would like to thank the staff at Vienna Nursing for their compassionate care during the last five years of Roy's life.
Due to the current COVID-19 precautions, a memorial service will be held at a later date when it is safe for family and friends to travel and gather safely.
The family suggests donations in Roy's memory can be made to the Sacramento SPCA, either by mail at the Sacramento SPCA at 6201 Florin Perkins Road, Sacramento, CA 95828; or online at sspca.org/donate. Please include that your donation is in memory of Mr. Roy Platt.

I met Roy once or twice. I didn’t know him well but what I do know is he was certainly loved by his family and after reading his obituary I’m sure his family is very proud of all he accomplished in his lifetime. Rest In Peace.
