Albert "Al" Vieria

Bedford Hills, - Albert P. Vieira, "Al" passed away on Friday, November 8, 2019. Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on July 17, 1926. Al moved to Mount Kisco, NY when he was six years old. He was a WWII Navy Combat Veteran. He served on the LST7 ferrying the troops on the assault at Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy (France) on D-day, which defined his character, as well as his faith. He spent forty-six years at Metro North Railroad as a Conductor, where he was known as the "Colonel". He also held the positions of Yard Master, Special Duty positions and Instructor. He was inducted into the Metro North Presidents Club.

His charitable work included: a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, fifty years as a Firefighter with The Union Hook and Ladder Company, snare drummer with the Mount Kisco Fire Dept. Fife and Drum Corps, a member of the American Legion, and Rosary Rally Captain for the Our Lady of Fatima campaign. Closest to his heart were the Special Olympics, where he raised money by swimming laps and volunteered as a timekeeper for the Olympic events. He also volunteered his time at the Danbury Railroad Museum, VFW, and Northern Westchester Hospital. He was known as Santa Claus for many Christmases in and around the village.

Al was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and St. Mary's Church. He was an Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister, and Sacristan.

Al loved, with all of his heart, his family and friends whom he would do anything for. His energy, passion for life, and compassion for people, made him a memorable and constant presence in everyone's life.

Al is reunited with his wife Laura of 62 years, and survived by his three children, Stephen (Jeannie), David (Oneida), Laura (Rick Suarez), daughter in-law Gina Esposito, 12 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, niece and nephews, cousin Nancy Rocha, and, long time friend and caregiver, Rwiza Kiwanuka .
