Mr Beverly was our first mail teacher, at Thornwood Elementary School. We have many happy memories, as he was a great teacher, and a great man. I remember he told us girls to not be in a hurry to wear makeup, as we all had natural beauty, in and out, and should always strive to be ourselves. my heartfelt condolences to all of his family, xo

I worked at both Thornwood and Hawthorne Elementary schools while Mr. Beverly was a principal. He always greeted me with a smile as well as the children that I taught. He respected me and my opinions as a professional. We shared many laughs together both at school and at our holiday parties. He also shared Lottie's recipe for her delicious brownies which he brought in for us to taste. They were great and he was so proud of her ability to bake. He was quick to give a compliment and you knew he was sincere in doing so. My deepest sympathy to all of his family. Rest in peace, "Alden".

Don, Phyllis, Scott, Brian and the rest of the Beverly's- I am sorry to hear about your Dad. I have always had great memories of your Dad when I went to school at Columbus Ave. He was a very kind and caring principal and made everyone feel part of the Columbus family. Years later, I met you(Don) at BOCES and the first thing I remember saying was "Is your father Mr. Beverly principal of Columbus School?" What an impression Dad made on me in 4th and 5th grade that I still hold dear to my heart as an adult and educator today. RIP Mr. Beverly!

Mr. Beverly granted me my first interview upon my graduation from college in 1971. I was a nervous wreck but his gracious manner and encouragement must have worked. I was hired and spent my 35 years teaching in the Mt. Pleasant school district. During those years I had the privilege of having him as my principal at Hawthorne Elem. He was tough, but fair and over time he became 'Alden'. I well remember polyester suits in the 70's and his megawatt smile. He fiercely loved his family and his wife who we all knew as Lottie. Her brownies come to mind as do our kidnapping him from his home on Crane Avenue to bring him to a coworkers house for a surprise retirement celebration. How he loved that! As years passed he'd stop at school once in a while and we were always amazed that he looked younger every year. Fond memories. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a gentleman and a fine man. He is and will be remembered. My thoughts are with you.

Rest in Peace Mr. Beverly. I have a warm feeling when I remember you welcoming my class from Hawthorne Elementary up to Columbus Avenue, Fifth grade, with open arms and a smile! Such a scary time made better by your presence. I can still see you standing in the lobby, so tall, with a great big smile on your face every morning to welcome us off the buses. My sincere condolences to the entire Beverly family.

Jim, Don and Tom: we are so sorry to hear of Uncle Bev's passing. Our family has great and funny memories of Uncle Bev and the family. I will always remember him and his pipe after dinner; I always enjoyed the aroma.
