ALICE ELDRED Obituary

Alice Pauline Eldred of Rye, New York died Saturday, February 18 at the age of 89. She was born in Bayonne, New Jersey on February 19, 1916 to Benjamin and Sadie Eldred and at the age of 8 moved up to Rye to live with her cousins, Henry and Catherine Ferris. She attended Milton School and graduated from the Rye High School. Alice grew up in the Ferris family and was a kind and generous person to all the young children in the related families and was a quality baby-sitter and fondly remembered by all the Ferris grandchildren. Alice had a long career working at Bantam Toy Company in Port Chester and when they closed, she retired. In her later years, Alice lived with cousins in Toms River, New Jersey and then moved to Rye where she lived with Doris Delfosse for 10 years on Halsted Place. Two years ago, Alice moved to Salem Hills Nursing Home where she passed away peacefully on February 18th, one day before her 90th birthday. She is survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews in New Jersey, Connecticut and New York State and was especially close to her cousins Donald Ferris of Newtown, CT and Doris Delfosse of Rye, NY. In addition to her parents, Alice was predeceased by her sisters, Evelyn and Marcella and her brother Benjamin (Bunny) of Perth Amboy, NJ. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date with a reception at 67 Halsted Place. Donations to the Westchester Lighthouse for the Blind are welcomed in her memory.
