Angela Labate Obituary
Verplanck - Angela Serafino Labate, 86, proprietor of Angela's Delicatessen of Verplanck, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2020. Angela was born on December 2, 1933 in Corsica, France and eventually migrated back to Italy with her father Salvatore, mother Livia Serafino and siblings.
In 1958, she married the love of her life Sebastiano Labate and came to America with hopes and dreams for a better life. They arrived in Verplanck where her parents and family had settled prior to them.
Angela and Sebastiano (Iano) took a leap of faith and purchased a delicatessen in the heart of Verplanck in 1963. Throughout her career, Angela, with her warm heart and bright smile greeted her family, friends, and customers every time they walked through the door. Angela's Deli became renowned for the "Meatball Wedges". With her husband Iano and sister Kay, they went on to build a legacy that will never be forgotten locally or a far.
Angela is survived by her sisters; Cathy (Tony) Campea, Luciana (Sal) De Fusco, and Piera (Charles) Graven; sister-in-law Linda Serafino; nieces and nephews; Bruno (Patty) Campea, Mauro Campea, Aldo De Fusco (Caryn), Marisa (Frank) Madori, Sal De Fusco, Vinny (Vicky) Serafino, Tony (Carrie) Campea, Tina (Ron) Fisher, Gina (Joe) Roggio, and Sal (Cassie) Graven; and by several great nieces and nephews; Nicole Campea , Gianna Roggio, Ashley and Adreana Serafino, Isabella and Paul Madori, Zachary Cannova, Dylan, Jack and Brooke Fisher, Francesca Graven, and Cecilia Campea. She was predeceased by her parents; beloved husband Sebastiano (Iano) Labate; sister, Marisa Serafino; brothers, Pasquale Serafino and Vincent (John) Serafino; and great nephew Mark Campea.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, 2-4pm and 7-9pm and also on Thursday, October 8th 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, Montrose, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 9th at 10am at St Patrick's Church, Verplanck, NY. Burial will follow at St Patrick's Cemetery also in Verplanck.
