ANITA LAPOINTE Obituary

LaPOINTE, ANITA U.Anita U. LaPointe, of Florida, formerly a longtime Peekskill resident, died on December 30, 2004. She was born in White Plains, NY on August 17, 1923, the daughter of William E. and Mary Murray Lent. With her family she lived in several local towns attending school in the Hendrick Hudson District and graduating from Poughkeepsie High School in 1941. On April 25, 1943, she married Fernand "Frenchy" LaPointe at St. Mary's Church, Poughkeepsie. They moved to Peekskill in 1945. For approximately 15 years, along with her husband, Mrs. LaPointe owned and operated the Champlain Motel in Plattsburgh, NY. Mrs. LaPointe was a communicant at Assumption Church, Peekskill and Holy Spirit Church, Cortlandt Manor. She was a 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas where she held the office of Vice Grand Regent, a member of the Assumption School Mother's Club, where she was secretary and treasurer and the Women's Guild at Holy Spirit where she was treasurer. She was also a den mother for the Peekskill Cub Scouts associated with The Assumption School. For many years, Mrs. LaPointe worked at the voting polls at Park Street School for both registration and elections. Mrs. LaPointe always enjoyed her time spent piano playing. Along with her husband Fernand of Pompano Beach, FL, survivors are her three daughters Anita Creem of Peekskill, Carole King-Gibson of Richmond, VA, Christine LaPointe of Poughquag, NY and son Robert LaPointe of Southbury, CT, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by sister Geraldine Brunella and brother John Everett Lent. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Assumption Church, Peekskill at 12 Noon on Monday, January 3, 2005 followed by interment at Assumption Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor, NY. Visiting at Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home, Peekskill on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anita's memory may be made to Assumption Church, 131 Union Avenue, Peekskill, NY 10566.
