ARTHUR KELLMAN Obituary
Judge Arthur C. Kellman (Retired), 74, of White Plains, died December 3, 2000. He was born October 26, 1926 in NY, NY to the late Miriam Kellman and Saul Kellman. On December 25, 1949, he married Josephine Claster in NY, NY. He was a graduate of Ossining High School, Union College, Columbia University and Brooklyn Law School. He was a member of Bet Am Shalom Synagogue. He was a resident of White Plains for 48 years, before that he resided in Ossining. Judge Kellman retired from the Judicial Hearing Office, State of New York. He was Acting City Judge of the White Plains City Court (1981-1996). He was Founder, president (1959-1962, 1983-1985) and Board Chairman (1992-1994) Beth Shalom Synagogue (now known as Bet Am Shalom Synagogue) White Plains, and was presently serving on its Board of Trustees. President of Jewish Community Council of White Plains, Scarsdale and vicinity (1963-1965). President of Federation of Reconstructionist Congregations and Fellowships (an international organization of Jewish Congregations) (1965-1967). Director, Jewish Reconstructionist Foundation, Inc. (1960-1970). Chairman, Westchester Conference on Soviet Jewry (1965). Chairman Human Rights Commission of City of White Plains (1965-1970). Founding member of Westchester (Urban) Coalition (1968). Chairman 1969 fund-raising campaign of White Plains Division of Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of Greater New York. President of NYS Association of City Court Judges (1991-1992). Chair American Bar Association's Small Claims Committee (1993-Present). Chair, NYS Bar Association's Small Claims Committee (1994-Present). He was a Present of NYS Association of City Court Judges. Member, American Bar Association, NYS Bar Association, NY County Lawyers' Association (former member of its Matrimonial Law Committee), Westchester County Bar Association, White Plains Bar Association, NYS Magistrates' Association, Westchester County Magistrates' Association. He received the Award of Honor (1967) - Federal of Jewish Philanthropies of Greater NY. Citation of Appreciation (1968) - County Executive, Edwin G. Michaelian for role in settling longest strike of social services workers. Certificate of Recognition for "Distinguished Judicial Service" - City of White Plains (1996). He authored "Arbitrator's Guide To Practice and Procedure in Small Claims Courts" (Distributed throughout NYS by Office of Court Adminstration). He is surivived by his children Beth Kellman (Peter Lisker) of Oakland, CA, Donald Kellman (Christine) of Spokane, WA, Hope Kellman (Jim Fennell) of Newton, MA and Nancy Kellman (Eric Press) of White Plains, eight grandchildren, Aviva, Lili, Shosha, Isaac, Laine, Jacob, Grace and Zachary. In lieu of flowers, donations to Bet Am Shalom Synagogue, 295 Soundview Avenue, White Plains, NY 10606 or the Anatol and Arthur Charitable Foundation, 2 Longview Avenue, Suite 201, White Plains, NY 10601. The goal of the foundation is to advance the understanding of cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Service will be held at 12:30 Tuesday at the Bet Am Shalom Synagogue, 295 Soundview Avenue, White Plains, NY. Interment Sharon Gardens Cemetery.
