Basil DeVito Obituary
Basil V. DeVito peacefully passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2008. Born April 17, 1917 to Maria Lasquadro and Michael DeVito in New York City, Basil married Jennie A. Ranilla of New Rochelle on November 24, 1940 at St. Joseph's Church in New Rochelle by Father Botti. He was a longtime resident of New Rochelle, NY and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church since 1945. Basil was a self-employed businessman and, on September 1, 1939, he founded Remington Fuels and operated H&W Motor Lines for many years. Basil was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of New Rochelle, where he received the Paul Harris Award. He also was an active member of the Elks and Court Sons of Italy. Basil had resided full-time in Ormond Beach, FL since 2001. He is survived by his five children, Maria (Ria) Flynn and son-in-law Anthony K. Flynn of Ormond Beach, Florida, Michael Basil DeVito and daughter-in-law Nancy Walsh of Pelham Manor, Janet DeVito of New Rochelle, Barbara Santorsola and son-in-law Richard Santorsola of Mamaroneck, Basil V. DeVito, Jr. and daughter-in-law Tina Zangrillo of Weston, CT. He is predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Constantine, Leonard and James and his sister Angela DeVito Ranilla and his half-sister Patricia DeVito Ugenti. Basil is survived by his ten loving grandchildren, Scott Basil Flynn, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Jennifer Flynn Dear, Winter Park, FL, Michael Basil DeVito, Jr., New Canaan, CT, Jason Paul DeVito, Boston, MA, Matthew Richard Santorsola, Spokane, WA, Brian Leonard DeVito, Cos Cob, CT, Jeffrey Paul Santorsola, Chicago, IL, Gregory Thomas Santorsola, South Hadley, MA, Alexander Basil DeVito and Zachary Basil DeVito, Weston, CT. He is also survived by his adoring great-grandchildren, Spencer, Taylor and Kelsey DeVito, Nicole Giovanna, Colin and Emily Dear. He leaves many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation Hours are Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 9:30 AM at Blessed Sacrament Church in New Rochelle.
