Charles Rose Obituary

Rose, Charles "Charlie"

Charles "Charlie" McFarlane Rose died unexpectedly, but peacefully, on April 18, 2017 at his home in Bedford, New York. In heaven and in this next phase of his life, Charlie joins his adored younger sister, Maggie, to whom he was exceptionally close and his cousins, Pia and Peter.

Charlie was born on November 24, 1999 and lived almost all of his life in Bedford, NY. He was 17 and a senior at Fox Lane High School at the time of his death and was eagerly planning to attend Kenyon College, where he had been accepted as an ED1 candidate.

Charlie was incredibly, deeply and completely cherished and beloved - by his parents, Alessandra and Clayton Rose; his brother, Harry; his sister, Berit; his grandparents, Piero and Hope Niceta, Kathy Rose and Hal Vogel, and the late Richard Rose; his aunts Rickie, Marina and Abriel; his uncles Thomas, Gustavo and Dave; his cousins, Nico, Marco, Fiona, Teddy, Mateo, Cal and Claire; his big extended, loving family; and his dear dog, Franklin. They will all miss him enormously.

Charlie was an unbelievably talented artist. His deep emotion and sensitivity came to life on the canvas, and he was proud of the inspiring and moving way he was able to capture the true spirit of his subjects through his work. He was also a uniquely compassionate person, sharing his time teaching 2nd grade CCD students at St. Patrick's Church, volunteering at Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship, and face-painting children of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated parents.

While the loss his family feels is beyond words, they are so deeply grateful to have known and loved him. Charlie was a source of extraordinary pride and joy - from the moment of his birth, to the moment of his death and every moment in between. He was truly the most precious gift.

His family would like to thank the many friends, teachers, mentors and role models who helped nurture and shape him - and who enabled him to experience deep love and so much laughter. Through the love and the care of so many, Charlie's life's purpose has been fulfilled, and that is worthy of gratitude and celebration.

To that end, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church in Bedford on Saturday, April 22nd at Noon followed by a reception at Historical Hall. In lieu of flowers, Charlie's family gratefully requests donations to The Charlie Rose Memorial Fund at Endeavor Therapeutic Horsemanship (P.O. Box 328, Bedford, NY 10506 or www.endeavorth.org/donate) or to support the therapeutic art programs of the Maggie Rose Perinatal Bereavement Program at the Bereavement Center of Westchester, 670 White Plains Rd., Suite 213, Scarsdale, NY 10583 or http://www.thebereavementcenter.org/donate.htm.

I met Charlie when he helped direct the Christmas Pageant at St. Patrick's Church last year, and I was struck by his caring, compassionate demeanor and the true kindness he showed to all the young performers. He was definitely a person you meet and realize he's one of those special souls - truly, one in a million. I didn't know him well, but I feel blessed to have made his acquaintance. Charlie, rest in eternal peace, and may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
