Chris (Christos) Sarames, a longtime Mamaroneck resident, passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2017 at the age of 99, nine months shy of his 100th birthday. He was born and raised in Paterson, NJ, graduating from Eastside High School.

Chris proudly served in the Marine Corps during WWII in the Philippine Islands from 1943 to 1945, as a Navigator-Bombardier Technical Sergeant, with the Marine Bombing Squadron 611. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and numerous Gold and Bronze Stars.

On April 27, 1947, he married Bertha Pallantios at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newark, NJ. In the early 1950's, he moved to Mamaroneck with his wife. Together they operated Chris' Restaurant in Mamaroneck for 10 years and Colonel's Grill in Harrison for 22 years, retiring in 1986.

He and his wife were among the Founders of the Greek Orthodox Church of Our Saviour in Rye, NY in 1957. Chris served on the Church's inaugural Parish Council, and along with Bertha, volunteered countless hours throughout their years.

Chris was a devoted father to his surviving children, Christine Delise (Thomas) and Nicholas. He was predeceased by Bertha, his wife of 43 years, sister, Katherine Menegas, and brothers, Paul and George.

An avid chess player, Chris also enjoyed solving the assorted puzzles in the newspaper, which he read daily up until a few days before his death.

Family and friends will gather on Friday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, with Trisagion Prayers at 2:30pm, at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, 785 E. Boston Post Rd. Mamaroneck. Funeral service 10am Saturday at Church of Our Saviour in Rye, followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
