CLIO HOFFMAN Obituary

Mrs. Hoffman was born January 5, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY. Her maiden name was Wemmell. She attended Brooklyn Friends School and studied voice and piano in Brooklyn and with Victor Powell of Palisades. A Coloraturo Soprano, she hosted and performed on her own radio program at station WCNW. She was a frequent Soloist at the Tappan Reformed Church, Eastern Star Meetings, Tappan Civic events and local musical productions. For over 35 years, she was the professional Soloist at the Nyack Christian Science Church. Mrs. Hoffman married Edward D. Hoffman in 1937. He died in 1963. the couple moved to Tappan in 1947. She was a Homemaker and also worked at Nyack Hospital and for Academic Press. She was a member of the Tappan Reformed Church, Nyack Christian Science Church, Rockland County Chapter No. 371, O.E.S., The Morning Music Club, a Girl Scout Leader, and a Christian Science Reading Room Volunteer. Survivors include her daughters Janice Hoffman Weintraub of Upper Saddle River, NJ and Virginia H. Morthland of Lake Oswego, OR; sister, Doris W. Still of Tappan; nine grandchildren; Alexandra, Andrew, Mikaela, Halley and Eryn Weintraub, Bryce and Cameron Morthland, Dawn Lightfoot and Devan Kirk; and three great grandchildren. Her daughter, Elaine H. Kirk died in 1981. Funeral arrangements were made Pizzi Funeral Home, Northvale, NJ. A family graveside service was held on March 14, 2000 for Clio M. Hoffman who died March 12, at age 86.
