FARRELL, D. HARMON, ESQ.D. Harmon Farrell, Esq., 93, a longtime Yonkers resident and lawyer, died on Janury 4, 2005, at the Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, after succumbing to Alzheimer's disease complicated by pneumonia. Mr. Farrell was born on April 24, 1911 in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY to Daniel Martin Farrell and Mary McGarry Farrell of Brooklyn and Hastings-on-Hudson. Mr. Farrell was a fifth-generation Brooklynite, who graduated from the Brooklyn Preparatory School in 1928 and received a B.A. in 1932 from Fordham College and an LL.B. from Fordham Law School in 1935. After practicing law in Brooklyn, he joined the Traveler's Insurance Company in 1938. Mr. Farrell served for many years as the claims manager of the Traveler's Westchester office and later as associate manager of the Traveler's office at 80 John Street in Manhattan. After his retirement from the Traveler's in 1976, Mr. Farrell was associated with the New York City law firm of Kroll, Edelman, Elser and Wilson. In 1983, he joined the downtown Manhattan firm of Conway, Farrell. Mr. Farrell tried court cases well into his eighties and retired from Conway, Farrell in 1996 at the age of 85. Mr. Farrell enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was commissioned as an officer in Navy Intelligence and served in the South Pacific, resigning his commission as a Lieutenant Commander in 1946. Mr. Farrell was active in Yonkers and Westchester civic and social affairs, serving as a board member of the Amackassin Club, the Catholic Youth Organization, the Yonkers District of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Washington Irving Council of the Boy Scouts. He was chairman of the Yonkers City Traffic Advisory Commission. Mr. Farrell was a communicant at Sacred Heart Monastery, where he was a lector for many years. Mr. Farrell was an indefatigable tennis player, an indifferent golfer, an avid reader, an enthusiastic traveler, and a loyal fan of the New York Giants. He had a quick smile, an insatiable curiosity, and a phenomenal memory for faces, recognizing friends he encountered throughout the world, even though he may not have seen them for decades. His beloved wife of 62 years, Lydia F. Farrell, predeceased him by four days on New Year's Eve. He is survived by his three sons: Daniel Harmon, Jr. of Ocean, NJ; the Rev. John Thomas of Brooklyn, and James Martin Farrell also of Brooklyn. He is also survived by two grandchildren: Gregory and David and a daughter-in-law, Mary. He was predeceased by two sisters: Katherine Farrell Monahan of Dobbs Ferry and Regina Farrell Schaefer of Dobbs Ferry. He was the uncle of Dr. Brian Monahan, the current mayor of Dobbs Ferry. Visiting hours will be at the Whalen & Ball Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 pm and on Monday from 9 am to 10 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Sacred Heart Church on Monday, January 10 at 10:30 am. Interment, Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
