DANIELA SZYPULA Obituary

of Bronxville and Cold Spring, New York, died on January 8, 2002, after a brief illness and complications following a fall. Daniela was born in Milan, Italy, on September 30, 1940. She was the daughter of Antonio Bernardi of Verona and Licia Forti Bernardi of Trieste. As a child she attended schools in Trieste, and later at the College " La Sagesse" in Bergamo. She attended the University of Milan and later worked in the field of pharmacological research at the Mario Negri Institute in Milan, and the New York Psychiatric Institute in Manhattan. On July 14, 1973, she married Richard M. Szypula at the Chapel of San Pasquale Baylon in Trieste, and thereafter lived in the United States. She was a member of the Working Gardeners of Bronxville, the Putnam County Historical Society in Cold Spring, and Scenic Hudson, Inc., as well as an active participant in Bronxville Republican Committee affairs, particularly following her acquisition of American citizenship last year. She is survived by her husband, Richard, her two sons, Michael Edward and Paul Antonio, and her brother, Paolo Bernardi of Milan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church in Bronxville, at 9:45 am on Friday, January 11. Friends may call at the McGrath Funeral Home in Bronxville (914-337-6770) on Thursday January 10 between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9pm.
